A Dream Bird Photography Outing
Join us on a three hour photography exploration of the water and shore birds of the Berg River, while one of our photography coaches are at hand to help you get the best possible photographs.
Bird photographers of all levels of experience, will love experiencing the Berg River's beauty and abundant bird life.
The Lower Berg River is recognised as an IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area) by BirdLife South Africa.
Many of the species that are not visible from the shore and exploring it by boat is the best way to bring you close to the abundant bird life.
Here are a few of the birds that we often encounter:
Greater Flamingo
Lesser Flamingo
African Darter
Glossy Ibis
Pied Kingfisher
Little Egret
Great White Pelican
Goliath Heron
African Swamphen
African Spoonbill
Common Greenshank
Grey Heron
African Fish Eagle
Caspian Tern
Making use of the morning light, we depart early and travel past the marshes and the estuary as we make our way far up the river to photograph the vast number of bird species the river has to offer.
Pied KIngfishers scan the waters from reeds. African Darters sit high up in trees and Spoonbills search the shallow waters for food. Red-knobbed Coots cover the waters as we approach and a seemingly oblivious Glossy Ibis searches the shore for a snack as a Caspian Tern patrols the river from above our heads.
This is what life on the river looks like.
It is not uncommon for us to find up to 40 different bird species during one trip.
This trip is all about exploring, learning and sharing.
And when we return, we get together over a cup of coffee at Columbine Co. to review and discuss the day's photographs.
Our treat!!
Come and play with us!
You'll love it on the river.
